Fleetís Electrification and Optimization Analysis
On behalf of a client, Protoscar analyzed the potential electrification of their managementís fleet. The study investigated the replacement of current vehicles with electric vehicles (EVs, REEVs and PHEVs), in order to create a more environmental friendly fleet without compromising the current patterns of usage. The aim was to suggest and then apply a sustainable fleet with regard to real mobility requirements, greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption and TCO. In addition, the study pursued the goal of gaining insights into the required charging infrastructure.
The fleet, consisting of 15 cars, has been analyzed with GPS data loggers during 6 months. Data about the real trips, as length, travel time, and topography have been gathered. With the measured data of the actual vehicles, several simulations of BEV- and REEV-fleets have been run through a software.
The best solutions to optimize the fleet have been suggested. Considering no changes in the actual mobility patterns, only little additional costs and important savings of greenhouse gas emissions and fuel, up to almost half of the cars could be replaced with EVs, REEVs and PHEVs.
Furthermore, the study explored the placement of the charging infrastructure to guarantee the same mobility patterns. The charging devices to charge the vehicles simultaneously during the night are basic. Results show that fast charging stations installed in the different office facilities of the client could be useful to reduce range anxiety and charging time e.g. during short term and unplanned trips. Moreover, a nationwide and public accessible fast charging network would be an essential support for this and every other EV fleet.
